Back to travel. One week to go!
One week today we take off to a much warmer climate. Our first leg is to drive to Gatwick then a flight to Dubai which is 7 hours. Then we go to New Zealand which is a killer 16 hours with a short connection in Australia. Am I bricking it? YES, it is a bloody long way and we have now got a baby who can move. Heidi started crawling at the end of November and we think she is pretty close to walking so I am anxious that such a long time travelling will be hardcore just because she wants to be on the go!
Packing is something that has been on my mind for a while. I want to get it done before Heidi’s birthday. She won’t remember her first birthday but we will and she has done better than most of my houseplants so it is worth celebrating! Given her birthday is so close to Christmas we feel like we need to try and guess what she might be like in 6 months time as the poor kid has a long wait until she gets more presents again.
I have managed to buy Heidi some gifts for the plane and the good thing about flying the day after her birthday is the toys will be new so she will have plenty of things to do on the plane despite the length of flight. When we get there we are staying with Dan’s friend for the first 4 days and I am sure jetlag with a 1 year old will be a barrel of laughs so I will keep you updated with how we do or don’t manage that! With regards to stuff for Heidi you can take a pram under 10kg on the flight and something like a travel cot or a care seat (depending on the airline). We are just taking a pushchair. When we get there we have friends of Dans lending us a travel cot and a rear facing car seat and we are also very lucky that we don’t need to rent a car in New Zealand as we are borrowing one and also we have accommodation for almost all of Dan’s tour.
Overall we can’t wait despite the trepidation of the travel aspect, Oh and packing makes me ‘spuddle’!
